I am a disappointed owner of a tx1120us laptop which has suffered the same defects and hence death as the issues with other models in HP's line up. HP refuses to acknowledge the problem with the TX line of laptops, so I have decided to create this site where we can all voice our opinions and displeasure with HP, and possibly get some response to their neglect.
Please check back soon as I will add to this site more user feedback and stories.
Sincerely
Matt
Wow, its been a year since I updated the site!
Anyhow, I am 99% sure the cause of the problem is in a defective GPU from nvidia; here is a link to a document about the lawsuit against nvidia: http://www.sfmslaw.com/documents/pdf/nvidia-gpu-complaint.pdf. But I may be wrong in this assumption as there has been no acknowledgement from HP as to what the problem is, although all of us users KNOW there is a problem with this series of laptops.
Also, I have added a list of some emails I have received since I started this site: EMAILS
I was contacted by another tx owner who also had his tablet repaired by HP after the warranty expired. He also had this to say:
they finally agreed to fix mine as well. i had to go through the tech support system, first speaking with a rep, then a supervisor, then a case manager, who although he did not admit that the tx had the same problem and that a lot of people have complained, he still took it in and fixed it, giving me a new motherboard, for free.
oh i forgot to mention; tech support is all in india, even the supervisors. the best thing to do is while speaking with the first rep, demand his/her supervisor. you will be on hold for a while, but once you have the supervisor on the phone, demand a case manager, they are all in canada. you have to do it in that order since the reps on the floor do not have access to the case managers. also, customer support does not have access to anything tech support related, especially not the case managers so it is pointless to try and go through them. i know you have had yours fixed already, but maybe that info will help someone else.
Thanks!
I guess I should have updated this sooner, and I apologize that I have not done so, its been a very hectic time for me. I do have some good news and bad news.
As you know I was past my warranty period, but I kept emailing many different departments and support. Well I guess they finally snapped. Support had escalated it to some case manager, and I was now getting phone calls from HP. They seemed to urgently want to speak to me since they even had left 4 messages in one day. Well it turns out I had their complaints department calling me and the case manager. I Spoke to the case manager first. I explained my issue and told her about how I feel (and how others have issues, etc) She went on about how it’s not a common enough issue at this point. However she said that she will put in a repair order. So long story short, I sent in my tablet and got it back with a new motherboard, no charge. Wireless working and all.
I guess the point to this is keep pushing their buttons until it gets escalated.
Here is some corrospondance up until the phonecalls:
And then from here I started to get phonecalls.
HOWEVER, The day after it was fixed and returned, the Wireless died again! So I am expecting the laptop to die again also :(
