Here is a list of some emails I have received over the time I have started this site. I have only copied the text to keep it anonymous.

I saw your post about the whole WIFI issue and dead laptops.. I've been posting on that thread for a bit because my Tx1000 has the wifi issue and soon will probably not turn on anymore.. If you can keep me updated and let me know what your plans are for this whole crazy situation. I already had one round with HP and got my WIFI working but then again disappeared.

---

Please do keep me posted on progress, though I am not getting my hopes up.  I am out of warranty so I am not really that excited about paying for a new MOBO or whatever it is that HP wants to do.

Thanx for organizing whatever critical mass you can create.

---

Hey Matt, my name is --- and guess what? i have a completely dead tx1000 too! same issues as everyone else: turn it on, lights come on, fan starts, cd drive comes on, but no juice from the hard drive. i have followed all of the instructions that anyone and everyone have posted (taking out the battery, turning it off and unplugging it for

12 hrs, resetting the memory, blah blah blah). still nothing. and of course, my 2 year extended warranty that i purchased JUST ran out.

know what the best part of all of this is? i worked for hp when i bought this computer! isnt that just spectacular?!?! so put me on any lists that you might be starting about other customers that are having this problem if you could.

---

Another disgruntled and frankly pissed off HP owner here. I experienced problems with my TX1129ea about 3 months ago, day and night I would try to explain my problem to HP - online, chat, phone - but t no avail. I bought the laptop in Saudi Arabia, (now I'm in Brisbane, Australia) had no problems for a year,  until one day the WiFi died, it was 1 week past warranty. Every time I tried to get it fixed, they transferred me to another rep. Most of which were Indian tech people, with no idea of my problem. Their final solution was to send it away for repair. I declined as it was going to cost me AU$200+ just for them to look at it. That didn't include shipping, labour or parts. They still refuse to acknowlege this series of laptops as an issue. I even tried to put in an Intel wireless card, but still no luck. Right now I am using a D-Link USB wireless adapter. But this just isn't good enough. HP should man-up and take responsibility for their actions. Surely this is no conspiracy that tx, dv and the rest of them are all dying, not only in one country, but around the world. Where is the justice? Together we will fight this wrong and get what we deserve. HP watch out...

---

I too am having intermittent problems with the Broadcom 4321 wireless on my HP TX1220us laptop.  It's started about six or seven months ago and has gotten progressively worse.  At first a simple reboot would fix it, but lately it disappears for days.  The cretins at HP tech support seem to have been trained in how to waste a customer's time to the point of frustration.

I've started researching possible solutions and will let you know if I find one....

On an other note, It seems that *all* TX1000 series laptops with touchscreen have a significant nonlinearities in the touch screen.  But the touchscreen driver assumes perfect linearity and performs a simple four-point calibration.  I complained to HP the first week I bought it, then three more times over the next six months.  They kept insisting there's no problem, then there is no update to fix it.

Got a customer here that has a bad tx1100us !
Powers up, lights up but no video.

Not sure if she was having wireless issues before since she only used it out selling real estate.
I have tried connecting a monitor to the VGA port and got nothing.
It isn’t trying to boot or read from the hard drive.

I assume it’s the motherboard. She basically gave it to me and bought another laptop after she found out what HP wanted to fix it.

---

I am having the exact problems you guys did and I still cannot find a solution from HP.

---

I also purchased an HP tablet just over a year ago (1 year and 3 weeks to be exact). My wireless card also went dead conveniently just last week right after my warrenty expired. I'm planning on doing something similar to what you've done and try to get HP to fix this piece of junk for free. I was wondering, if you have any tips on how to deal with these HP reps.

Also, I noticed that you're from Canada. I'm live in the Greater Toronto Area. In any case, since we're both from the same country, and you probably already noticed that many people are buying HP notebooks from Bestbuys and Futureshops which means they will probably have the same problems too, do you think we should start a petition or document everyone's problems so we can file an official complaint to the Consumers' Association of Canada or the Canadian Council of Better Business. Alternatively, we could expose HP to the media (i.e. write to the Globe and Mail, CBC, or the Toronto Star).

HI I AM A TX1016 OWNER FROM INDIA
the cust care said tat the service centre (which is actually some 3rd party company) will look into it.they gave a quote of rs14000 roughly $350. i went back there and told them its a known issue.
the engineer told me he has no authority and told me to mail him the links. this is the mail i sent him
i will let u know wen i recieve a reply
(needless to say... my problem is identical.. wlan dead, then refuses to boot)

---

Hi, i saw your post on the forum. I'm having the same problem with my tx1221au. Wireless not detected. Screen blank when boot.

I went to hp service center. They say my motherboard need to be replaced. The charge is around half of the new notebook price. I refuse to repair because this is HP problem. They should responsible for this.

HP say there's no document prove this problem, so there will be no free service to change the board. !!

---

I have the same issue with my Hp, the wireless card died…..Tech support finally sent me a new one (month before warrantee ended!)  The new card work for a week and died. Hp refused to repair anything because warrantee expired.  I decided to place an express wireless card  in it…That worked for about 3 months…..then it refused to be seen!>!  Totally pc died after that!?!  What  is you exact configuration and model #’s?   This is my wife’s Pc and she loves it when it works?!?!    I thought I seen on the web that the Intel versions don’t have the issues – only amd?!?  I also seen on the web that Vista does not support Nvidia graphic cards?!?. I have notice that the refurb tx2510 NOW has ati graphic card!?!

---

I purchased a Pavilion tx1000z in May of 2007, and I should have known it would be full of problems when the "p" key fell off the keyboard soon after its arrival.

My network card disappeared 1 month after my 1 year warranty expired. I chatted with the online support person, and was told that my network card needed to be replaced. I ordered a replacement card from the HP parts store, which took 2 months to arrive. Upon installation, the new card also was not recognized. I plugged in my Ethernet cable and sadly went along with the handicapped system.

Two months later, I started running into two separate booting issues. About 66% of the time, when I slide the on switch, the hard drive light will blink 3 times, followed by absolutely nothing. The other 34% of the time, it will blink the full 8 times, and boot. Unfortunately, when it reaches the windows logo, the screen is distorted the rest of the way. When I plugged in an external monitor, the exact same distorted image was on both screens. Another issue is that when it hibernates, sleeps, or powers down the screen, it will never turn back on without re-starting.

For temporary fixes, if I hit F8 when it actually gets that far, the computer is sometimes able to boot up in safe mode. Sometimes, low screen resolution mode works as well.

I have tried the following fixes without success:
1)rebooting the system
2)unplug the system and remove the battery, then holding the on switch for 30 seconds
3)download new drivers for video card and wireless card
4)system restore
5)factory restore
6)re-seating ram

Why hasn't HP done anything to admit the faulty tx1000 series? I used to appreciate HP laptops, and would purchase another in the future if this were resolved appropriately. However, when I called their help center, their only answers were that they hadn't heard of this happening before, and that if I send them my laptop and $400, they could make it go away. For now, I've purchased a new laptop from a different manufacturer, and occasionally start up the tx1000z to see if miracles really do happen.

---

Is there ANY way that you've fixed this problem? With the dead wireless then the whole thing just dying?

---

I have a tx1000 just over a year old that just lost wireless...  soon to be dead I hear.  No repairs have worked.  Do you need any other information?

---

Hi, I don't know if your are still attempting to have a recall on the tx1000 series. I have a tx1000 1320us model and it is having the same issues with the wireless card that everyone has been talking about, mine also has booting up issues. I've tried contacting HP, but since it's 90 days over warranty they want money to fix this lemon - it is my 2nd laptop from them in a year (the first tx1000 1320us broke within a week).

---

Hi,

Seen your link in the hp forum area.  Wondering how you are making out with the tx1000 issue, tx1320us in my case?  Mine lasted past warranty, due in part I believe because I normally run in battery save mode reducing the heat load on the unit.  I was installing some new software and bumped it up to performance.  It got much hotter, that's when the wifi dropped out and has never returned.  I talked with HP support by chat and finally on the phone only to be told that they will not do anything other then offer a percentage off the normal charge of $400+.  It's not worth that much to fix, but it is a defect and they should step-up and do the right thing.  I have posted many updates and links to other like messages in the hp forum.  You may already know about them all, but if not, here are a few and they are growing by the day.

Hi Matt,

My name is --- and I am having the same problem. A few days ago my tx1000 which I purchased around august 2007 is not reading my wireless card.  I am trying to find a place right now to replace it and  am looking at spending around $70. Hopefully my cpu does not die. Please keep me posted on the matter. Thank you so much.

---

Very interesting website to stumble across, I didn't know many TX1000 had this issue.

---

I stumbled across your posts on a few forums concerning dead hp TX1000 computers.  I own a TX1000z and the wireless has gone out several times (I have sent it in to HP under warranty twice and it is out again) and the computer has just recently stopped booting.  Its about to go in again.  I have been more frustrated with this machine than with any other computer that I have used, and I hope you are able to get HP to listen to our complaints.

---

Luckily I haven't had any issues with the wireless card... But now I'm going to worry about that. For a few weeks my monitor would pop up horrible vertical lines, then that escalated to the monitor fading to white. Sometimes a re-start would do it. A couple times I had to let it sit before it would come back on. One time I took the battery out and plugged it into the wall, that worked but only the once. Now it's been 2 weeks and it won't start up at all. All the lights come on, the harddrive and the CD rom are spinning, but nothing comes up on the screen. I haven't called HP yet. My friend told me to check for recalls, and well... That led me to you! I hope you can help!

---

I have a piece of brick too now. Trying to plan my attack.

Usual story:

first wifi dies, 2 months later, VGA start to flickr, 1 month later, won't even post bios.

I'm going to call HP everyday until I get this mofo replaced!

---

Hey, I just called HP and they gave me their dance. I saw you posted your success. I was wondering what exactly you told them to make this happen.

---

Hey  Matt, really appreciate you starting this site for the TX1000 series. I noticed however that the facebook link isn't working on your site so I went on facebook to search to see if there is a group for tx1000 and I found one

I ran this search on facebook:

HP TX1000 Laptop

I thought maybe you can add some info about that to your site...I'm in medschool right now so don't have any time to do anything..but I definitely want to help in this effort, I'll get more free around july, let me know if there is anything I can help with (i have experience in web design so maybe i can help with that), either way, good luck with everything,  take care

---

I saw your post at the HP IT forums, and was wondering if you're still persuing anything in regards to this matter? I've got a tx1305us that just died on me with the exact same problems as so many other people: first, the wireless went out, then a few days later it stopped booting up. This is occurring roughly four months after warranty expired. I'm willing to help do whatever I can - I plan on contacting HP over the phone and email, but doubt this will do much after reading others' experiences with HP. If there's anything else you'd recommend, I'd appreciate it.  Thank you.

---

I am having the exact problems you described. Wireless card started going now it won’t boot or anything just some lights.

---

I am experiencing the same issues. the screen of my tx1000z hp went dead after a month the warranty expired. please let me know, if i can join a group claim or if you have any advice how to address the issue.

thank you for your time,

---

As i write this message I am afrian this laptop may die on me! I have just today bought i wireless usb adapter for the system as the wireless has died. After seeing this amount of trouble with these pc's I contacted "which magazine" in the uk which would be happy to help with our problem. I think there defo need to be media coverage on this subject and HP can not get away with this. Please email me if you can give me any information that would help me when dealing with this magazine! I am also going to mention the fact that its 60pence per min to call support in the uk! What a great site you have, im so glad you has done this.

Hello,

Glad to see your post.

Just a few months after my warranty expired, my HP Paviolion kept powering off.  After 2 days of working with Tech Support, that I had to pay another $99.00 for, they tell me it is the motherboard and will cost over $400.00 to repair, and then only limited warranty.  I’m seeing and hearing that this is not an uncommon occurrence with this notebook, but HP will not do anything but offer to sell me another laptop, at the same price as anyone else.  This is no compensation for purchasing a $1300 dollar machine that only last about 15-16 months.  That’s horrible.

If there is anything I can do to help motivate HP to recall these machines, or provide compensation to the buyers, let me know.

Again, I appreciate your posts and efforts.

---

Hi, I purchased a tx1000 in aug 07...my wireless went out a few months ago and now I'm left with a dead laptop...anything i can do?

---

Add me to your list.

I've been in contact with HP customer service for WEEKS. My wireless started "disapearing" a FEW DAYS after my warrenty expired!

They keep sending me e-mails telling me to "update my wireless drivers and BIOS" well guess what...

I've done it SEVERAL TIMES and still no change. I keep explaning the situation and also the fact that IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE and they dont seem to care.

All I can say... is that I'm SO HAPPY I saved money on my "piece of crap" by buying it new on E-Bay.

Please keep me updated on the site you are starting and thank you for helping to look into this.

Dear Matthew:

Thank you for contacting us regarding the litigation that we have commenced against Hewlett-Packard Company (“HP”) regarding certain notebooks/laptops.

As you may have read on our website, Shepherd, Finkelman, Miller & Shah, LLP (“SFMS”) has filed a complaint alleging that certain HP laptops contain serious defects, which cause their power jacks to fail.  Specifically, on January 6, 2009, SFMS, along with co-counsel, filed a Class Action Complaint on behalf of Mr. Cass Wilson (the “Plaintiff”) against Hewlett-Packard Company (“HP”) in the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, Civil Action No. 1 09-CV-132004. The Complaint alleges that HP misrepresented and concealed material facts regarding certain laptops, including a design defect, which causes the power jacks of the laptops to fail. Specifically, the defect affects the attachment of the power jacks to the motherboards of the laptops. As a result of the defect, the solder connection between the motherboard and the power jack is interrupted, which ultimately causes the laptops to fail. The HP Pavilion laptops at issue in Plaintiff’s case include laptops in the following series: dv, zd, ze, zt, zv and zx.  The laptops that are the subject of this lawsuit do not include the models listed on the attached document, all of which were covered by a different settlement.  In addition, if the problem you are experiencing relates to a NVIDIA graphics processing unit (“GPU”) or media communications chip (“MCP”), your issue is covered by a different lawsuit that is being handled by different lawyers.  For the convenience of consumers, you can view a copy of the current complaint in The NVIDIA GPU Litigation by clicking the link supplied on our website.  If you have any questions regarding The NVIDIA GPU Litigation, we suggest that you contact one of the lawyers listed on that complaint, since we do not have any involvement in that lawsuit.

In the lawsuit that SFMS has filed against HP, Plaintiff seeks to represent a class of all persons or entities in the United States who purchased, not for resale HP Pavilion Notebook model computers from the dv, zd, ze, zt, zv and zx series (with the exception of the excluded models listed on the attachment), directly from HP or from authorized resellers. Through his Complaint, Plaintiff alleges violations of the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, the California Unfair Competition Law, and for breach of express warranty.

In March 2009, HP filed a demurrer to the Class Action Complain seeking dismissal of Plaintiff’s Complaint. Plaintiff opposed Defendant's Motion on April 6, 2009. After a hearing on Defendant's Motion, the Court overruled the demurrer with respect to Plaintiff's Unfair Competition Law claim. Further, the Court overruled HP’s demurrer to the first and second causes of action for failure to specifically plead a cause of action grounded in fraud and overruled HP’s demurrer with respect to the first and second cause of action for lack of standing. The Court sustained HP’s demurrer with respect to Plaintiff's claims under the CLRA and for breach of warranty, but granted leave to amend.  On May 11, 2009, Plaintiff filed an Amended Class Action Complaint and on May 21, 2009, HP filed a notice to remove this case to federal court.  A hearing was held by the federal court concerning Plaintiff's motion to remand the case back to California state court, as well as HP’s renewed motion to dismiss the case, on August 28, 2009.  The Court has not yet issued a decision regarding Plaintiff’s motion to remand or Defendant’s motion to dismiss.

We will continue to update our website (www.sfmslaw.com) regarding the progress of this litigation, and you should check it periodically to stay abreast of any developments.  If you have any questions or would like to discuss any other matter with us, please email dtutler@sfmslaw.com and Ms. Tutler will schedule a time for you to speak directly with one of the attorneys handling this case.  In addition, we have received reports from certain consumers that the defect in the laptops may cause them to catch fire.  If you have any information regarding HP laptops catching fire, please email dtutler@sfmslaw.com and Ms. Tutler will schedule a time for you to speak directly with one of the attorneys handling this case.

I’m writinng to you because I found your post @ HP forum, my TX dies about 3 months after warranty expired..same issue, overheating laptop, loosing wireless connection, followed by a dead screen but lights on.. I spent days trying to revive it, so I could save my work from the last week.. I was able to do it by using a blow dryer, save my stuff and tried to install XP ( read that it could fix the problem, since Vista takes a lot from the system) but when XP installed and had to boot , dead screen was there..

Obviously at that point I had already contacted Hp, which did not acknowledge the problem, and charged $450 to fix TX, which I argued that they had already a price set up for tX series because Hp knew the problem was to replace motherboard.

I can replace myself if that was the case, but it is not..

Certainly, after many Hp computers mainly because price is good ( But all of them seem to heat a lot and have a loud fan), I drop the brand from my consumer preference..loving ASUS!

Anyway, I was looking forward to bring Hp to small claims, or class action, or whatever, that can make me feel better about losing $1000 in a tablet ..

---

My HP tx1000 broke 2 days ago. Also purchased in August of 2007. The wireless network adapter is no longer working and is not listed in the device manager. After 2 hours on the phone with tech in Indonesia he sold me an extended warranty for $150 to get the unit fixed. He thinks the NIC card is defective- I think after reading here that the whole unit is defective. (Also had the hot issue) Paid close to $1600 with tax and add ons for my machine only 2 years ago. Now it sounds like even with the new warranty it won't be fixed. CLASS ACTION SUIT if no recall-that's what I say!!!

Please keep me in the loop!  I posted to the HP website and will include everyone’s complaints when I return my unit so the tech guy can know that they will all start coming back for repair!
